Technology for Development

New, low-cost technologies are lowering the threshold for people to improve their lives and be leaders in their communities.

While the technologies become more common, skills in applying them effectively for social issues often lag behind. For almost 20 years, IREX has been pioneering the integration of appropriate technology into development activities.

Using simple technology, IREX has developed networks of young women leaders in Turkmenistan, helped health organizations send SMS medication reminders to those living with HIV/AIDS in Ukraine, worked with professional and citizen media to use blogs in the Middle East, and brought libraries in Romania and Ukraine into the 21st century.
