Educated, civically engaged and informed citizens are essential to peaceful societies. To that end, IREX addresses conflict around the world by strengthening connections among civil society actors, building educated citizens, ensuring the spread of accurate and balanced news and information, and promoting citizen-government collaboration.
IREX works with partners in conflict zones and post-conflict and transitioning societies. By collaborating with local organizations and individuals, our programs invest in people from all facets of society to facilitate dialogue, develop innovative solutions to community challenges, and strengthen ties.
IREX supports conflict resolution by building open and pluralistic societies. For example, IREX trains youth and adults to promote consensus in conflict-affected communities in Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, and Rwanda, promotes conflict-sensitive journalism in Somalia and Libya, and preserves evidence of human-rights abuses in Syria.
