Over the course of 2010, the BOTA Foundation has made significant investment in maternal and child health, early childhood development, child and youth protection and livelihood development. BOTA gives a report of its work on behalf of impoverished and vulnerable children and youth in Kazakhstan.

IREX, with funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, is conducting an assessment of public libraries and access to information in Moldova. As a part of the assessment, IREX wishes to contract with a Moldovan research firm to conduct a national survey of Moldovan citizens and focus groups of library users and non-users throughout Moldova.

Tech Age Teens, funded by Tengizchevroil and administered by IREX in Atyrau, Kazakhstan, is increasing access to ICT and ICT training, developing leadership capacity in local youth, and giving them the skills to design and implement diverse community service projects in and around Atyrau. Read more in this report about Tech Age Teens’ 950 participants from 29 schools, in 57 community projects—all led by students.

Five legal professionals from Tajikistan are studying law at US universities this year in an effort to strengthen the rule of law in their home country. Through the Legal Education and Development (LEAD) Fellowship Program for Tajikistan, these fellows are earning their LLM to gain a greater understanding of comparative legal systems that they will apply to law in Tajikistan. Below are profiles of these exceptional scholars’ past experiences and plans for the future.

This Strategy attempts to directly engage and empower women as change agents through the media which transmits values and has the power to influence perceptions, opinions and attitudes. Women media practitioners, as well as ordinary female citizens, are targeted to benefit from this framework.

The Spring 2011 cohort of University Administration Support Program fellows brings together 8 leading university administrators - 1 from Armenia, 1 from Georgia, 1 from Ghana, 2 from Russia and 3 from Ukraine. They are currently studying a range of university management topics at host universities across the country.

The 2011 Symposium will bring together American junior and senior scholars to examine timely issues concerning gender and women’s issues from multi-disciplinary perspectives. Research areas include: human trafficking and women’s rights, migration, family and religion, among other issues critical to gender and women’s issues.
