While highly valued for their skills, Vranje’s Roma musicians increasingly face new challenges in the wake of the Yugoslav civil wars of the 1990s.This research project examines the ways that Roma (“Gypsy”) musicians in Vranje, Serbia, negotiate their economic and cultural place in society through the performance of music.

The HIV Prevention and Care among Populations at Risk in the Russian Federation (HPC) program aims to prevent the spread of HIV infection in higher-risk groups through information-sharing and technical assistance programs, forming an effective model of providing medical and social services to target groups in Moscow and the Orenburg region. In implementing the HPC program, IREX collaborates with its Russian partner, the SANAM Foundation for Development and Support of Preventative Programs.

The recently released second edition of the Jordan Media Survey includes significant findings on Internet usage—including a 100 percent increase in Internet use over last year’s figures—as well as on the most popular online news sources.

This is a comprehensive style guide--it covers print, broadcast, and online media--was produced for the Get Out the Vote Campaign ahead of the 2007 parliamentary elections and a parliamentary TV show. Only a handful of media outlets in Jordan have style guides. With this new version, IREX hopes media outlets will be able to adapt the guide to their needs. The bilingual guide is written in Arabic and English. Topics include newswriting, newspaper design, writing for radio and television, and conducting Web research.
