This week Faroiz’s story, Performing Empowerment, Changing a Father's Mind, is featured in the EngagingMen.net Stories of Resistance and Change e-magazine alongside stories of men and women from around the world who work for gender equality in their communities.
Last fall IREX brought you the story of Faroiz, a young woman In Tajikistan whose experience in IREX’s Youth Theater for Peace program inspired her to launch conversations with her parents about early marriage and girls' education. Faroiz successfully convinced her parents to delay her own marriage so she could continue attending school in pursuit of her dream to become a doctor.

IREX congratulates Biblionet Program Director Paul-Andre Baran on his nomination to serve as European Union Digital Champion for Romania. In its nominating letter, the Romanian Minister of Communications and Information Society Valerian Vreme wrote, “Through his work, Mr. Baran has constantly advocated for the role of ICT in today’s society and …managed to bring a strong contribution to reducing the Digital Divide in Romania.”
