In the April 2012 edition of The NonProfit Times IREX is named one of the Top 50 Best Nonprofits to Work For.  In the category of medium organizations, IREX ranked number five and overall ranked thirteenth.

Multimedia Education Center Opens in Tbilisi, Georgia

The new Multimedia Education Center opening March 14, 2012 in Tbilisi will change journalism education in Georgia. The Center provides journalism students the opportunity to work in multiple media platforms, alongside professional journalists, using the latest visual media tools.

IREX is proud to announce the video release of “Inspiring Girls’ Futures: the Youth Theater for Peace (YTP) Story.” 

More than 100 million girls under the age of 18 will be married in the next 10 years. In Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, young girls are challenging this figure by convincing their parents to allow them to stay in school.

Youth Theater for Peace Featured as Cover Story in EngagingMen.net E-Magazine

This week Faroiz’s story, Performing Empowerment, Changing a Father's Mind, is featured in the EngagingMen.net Stories of Resistance and Change e-magazine alongside stories of men and women from around the world who work for gender equality in their communities.

Last fall IREX brought you the story of Faroiz, a young woman In Tajikistan whose experience in IREX’s Youth Theater for Peace program inspired her to launch conversations with her parents about early marriage and girls' education. Faroiz successfully convinced her parents to delay her own marriage so she could continue attending school in pursuit of her dream to become a doctor.

Biblionet Director Nominated for EU Digital Champion of Romania

IREX congratulates Biblionet Program Director Paul-Andre Baran on his nomination to serve as European Union Digital Champion for Romania. In its nominating letter, the Romanian Minister of Communications and Information Society Valerian Vreme wrote, “Through his work, Mr. Baran has constantly advocated for the role of ICT in today’s society and …managed to bring a strong contribution to reducing the Digital Divide in Romania.”
