Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance

Employees are eligible for health, dental, and vision benefits on the first day of employment. Employees may choose to elect coverage under CareFirst Blue Choice HMO, Opt Out Plus POS, or Blue Preferred (PPO).

IREX also provides domestic-partner coverage through our CareFirst health insurance. This insurance will extend health insurance to the domestic partner of an IREX employee of the same or opposite sex. There are defined guidelines in determining who qualifies as a domestic partner.

Flexible Spending (Cafeteria 125 Plan)

Employees are eligible to participate on IREX’s flexible spending accounts that allow employees to pay for childcare and medical expenses on a pre-tax basis.

Life Insurance and Accidental Death and Dismemberment

Effective on the date of hire, IREX provides life insurance and accidental death and dismemberment insurance (AD&D) in the amount of three times the employee’s annual salary.

Short Term Disability Insurance

IREX will offer you important financial protection by providing short-term disability insurance (STD) to all employees. IREX pays the full premium for this benefit. All employees working 30 hours or more are eligible for coverage on the first day of employment.

STD begins on the first day of an accident or the eighth day of an illness and may continue for up to 13 weeks. The coverage amount is 60% of the basic monthly earnings less other income benefits.

Long Term Disability Insurance

IREX pays the full premium for this benefit. All employees working 30 hours or more are eligible for coverage on the first day of employment. LTD begins on the 91st day of an accident or illness and continues coverage in the amount of 60% of the basic monthly earnings less other income benefits. Other features of the plan include a residual disability provision which will pay a proportionate benefit if one can return to work on a part-time basis; own occupation insurance; retirement income protection; survivor income benefit; and worldwide emergency assistance.

Retirement Plan

Upon employment, employees are eligible to make their own tax-deferred contributions to TIAA-CREF’s basic retirement plan. After two years service with the organization, employees are eligible to join TIAA-CREF’s defined contribution plan. Essentially, employees contribute 5% of salary and IREX contributes an additional 10% to the plan. Employees have a choice of several excellent investment options.
