TITLE: Short-Term Media Trainers
DIVISION: Media Development Division

REPORTS TO:  Senior Program Officer, Media Development Division, Washington, DC 

NOTE: This position is open to citizens of African nations only and is based on receipt of funding by IREX.

IREX and its partner IREX Europe deliver cross-cutting programs and consulting expertise in more than 50 countries.

SUMMARY OF POSITION
IREX is seeking media professionals and media trainers for short-term consultancies in French-speaking countries of Africa. Assignments, which might last from one week to two months, will involve training journalists, editors or other media professionals or advising media outlets, media support or professional organizations, or NGO and government outreach departments.

Specializations of interest include:

  • Journalism training 
  • Media management, including organizational development and leadership training.
  • Media and conflict mitigation
  • Media business development
  • Broadcast and print equipment and infrastructure
  • Media and NGO/government relations
  • Journalism education and curriculum development
  • Media law
  • Media freedom advocacy
  • Media support organizations and professional associations

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Ability to work fluently in French is required
  • Demonstrated commitment to media professionalism and pluralism
  • Professional experience in print, broadcast, Internet and/or community media
  • Training, mentoring and/or consulting experience in Africa
  • Ability to develop specialized media training programs, including materials and exercises 
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Willingness to travel and work in potentially challenging settings
