TEA consists of a six-week academic program at a U.S. university, including intensive training in teaching methodologies, lesson planning, teaching strategies for their home environment, teacher leadership, as well as the use of computers for Internet, word processing and as tools for teaching. The program also includes an internship at a secondary school to engage participants actively with the American teachers and students.
The TEA fellowship provides the following:
• J-1 visa support
• A pre-departure orientation held in your home country
• Round-trip airfare from your home city to, and within, the US
• A Welcome Program in Washington, D.C.
• A six-week university professional development program
• Housing (generally shared with other program participant(s) and meals
• Accident and sickness insurance
• A baggage allowance to cover domestic travel checked luggage costs
• A maintenance allowance will be allocated for six weeks to cover the costs of incidental expenses such as laundry, medicine, etc.
• A book allowance will be allocated towards purchasing books and educational materials
• An End-of-Program Workshop in Washington, D.C.
• The opportunity to apply for alumni small grants
Eligibility
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
• Be secondary school-level, full-time teachers with five or more years of classroom experience in TEA teaching disciplines: EFL, Social Studies, Mathematics, or Science
• For the program year 2013, be citizens of and residents in eligible TEA countries:
Africa: Cote D'Ivoire, Ghana, Mali, Rwanda, South Africa
East Asia and the Pacific: Cambodia, Thailand
Europe and Eurasia: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Estonia, Georgia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Russia, Ukraine
Near East: Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Oman
South and Central Asia: Bangladesh, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Nepal, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan
Western Hemisphere: Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Venezuela
Eligible countries are subject to change.
• Have proficiency in written and spoken English with a TOEFL score of 450 or higher
Note: For applicants that are citizens of and resident in the country of Turkey, applicants must be secondary school-level, pre-service teachers. For further details, please contact the Public Affairs Section of the US Embassy in Turkey at http://turkey.usembassy.gov/
Former participants of ILEP, TEA, Partners in Education (PiE) or the Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program are ineligible to apply. If you have participated in other programs funded by the US government, please talk to the Fulbright Commission/US Embassy in your country about your eligibility.
