Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program (TEA)
University Hosts for the Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program (TEA) for International Secondary Teachers
The US Department of State and IREX announce an open competition for a US university to design and host a six-week professional development program for approximately 20-22 international secondary-level teachers of English as a Foreign Language (EFL), Social Studies, Math, and Science.
TEA will bring 84 outstanding teachers from among 31 countries to the United States in Fall 2011 to participate in this program, which is meant to:
• enhance teachers’ expertise in their teaching discipline as well as their skills in best practice teaching methods and the use of technology for instruction
• create among educators a more nuanced understanding of the US
• develop productive, lasting relationships and mutual understanding between US and international teachers and their students
• contribute to improving teaching in participating countries by preparing participants to serve as teacher leaders
Universities will be asked to develop a program that includes academic workshops in general and discipline-specific pedagogical topics, instructional technology training, an internship component at a local secondary school, and cultural and civic activities to expose TEA participants to the broader community.
Interested universities can email teaglobal@irex.org to receive a copy of the request for Statements of Interest.
The deadline for statement of interest submissions is Monday, March 7, 2011 at 5pm EST.
