The International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX) is established to administer exchanges previously held by IUCTG, the Social Science Research Council, the Ford Foundation, and the American Council of Learned Societies. Allen Kassof, a professor at Princeton University, is hired as executive director of IREX. IREX's office is established in New York with a staff of 10.
