President Kennedy works to streamline
US foreign policy structure and makes foreign assistance
a top priority. He founds the Peace Corps, an organization of
American volunteers
who
lend their skills and
time to
developing countries.
He also begins the legislative process leading to the Foreign Assistance
Act, which is passed by Congress and results in the creation
of the United States Agency for International
Development
(USAID) to administer international economic assistance
programs.
